118/365 I Can Fix Things!

In August I bought a car.  When I went to drive it at night, no lights came on in the interior.  I was sad.  Then months and months later, in March, someone tried to help me change the light bulbs.  Once they were installed I still had no lights, and guess what?  Nothing worked on my instrument panel.  Who needs to know how fast they’re driving anyway?

So as my life with cars goes, it’s now June and my mother and I were sick of my car situation.  So today we went to the junkyard and purchased an instrument panel and installed it ourselves.  Yesssssss!  I am a mechanic!  Guess what was wrong with the old panel?  This teeny little piece of metal was torn.  Go figure that something so small could cause so many problems….

Ok.  I know this is not an “outside” picture.  Does it count as a 365 if I had to go outside to fix my car?

55/365 Stack ’em up

I spent a few hours out by the garage cleaning out my new car.  It’s washed, vacuumed and the interiors been dusted and windexed.  Cleaning all that takes a LONG time!  I noticed this stack of hubcaps while I was working.

42/365 Spirit of Victory

I wasn’t sure what to photograph today and somehow the “Spirit of Victory” popped into my head so I took a drive over to it to shoot.  The heat is still outrageous so I don’t know where I got this harebrained idea from, but I went anyway.

Back when I had first moved out to this area I was driving along the river between Lewiston and Youngstown at night.  As I passed Joesph Davis State Park I noticed a strange spotlight shining on something to the left of the park.  Curiosity got the better of me so I pulled in.  What I found was a sculpture by Tom Mullany.  It was originally part of an instillation called “Drums Along the Niagara” which was created for Artpark in 1989.  The piece was restored in 1998 by the Lewiston Council of the Arts and now resides in a grove, standing all by itself along the Niagara river.

The first time I viewed it in the dark it was scary and intimidating with the spotlight shining harshly on its face.  In the daylight it’s actually quite nice…. If it’s not sweltering hot out.  Here’s a shot I took of the backside of the sculpture.
